Millennial Fulfills Dream, Cravings With Clifton Pretzel Shop

CLIFTON, N.J. – Since Dayo Kusamotu moved to the Clifton area, there's been one craving he hasn't quite been able to satisfy: warm, soft, freshly-baked pretzels.

And so, the 30-year-old entrepreneur did something about it.

Kusamotu is now in the final stages of opening a Philly Pretzel Factory franchise. The spot is slated to open the week of Sept. 18, he told Daily Voice, while standing in the space he is renovating at 859 Clifton Ave.

Kusamotu is excited to get his venture started.

“I have always wanted to have a business for myself,” he said.

“These are fresh pretzels which are baked every day. We mix the dough on site. We twist them on site. We bake them on site. We serve them on site,” he explained.

The treats come salted or unsalted, and with different toppings such as peperoni and cheese, cinnamon, sesame, garlic and poppy seeds, he said.

Kusamotu said he first developed his love of pretzels when he was studying economics at Rowan University in Gloucester County. And when he moved to Bloomfield, a few minutes from Clifton, “I couldn’t satisfy my need locally.”

He said there are Philly Pretzel Factory locations in Nutley, Livingston, and Morristown, but they weren’t close enough. “I felt Passaic County needed theirs.”
