“We are very excited. The building has been vacant for a while,” Mayor Thomas Giordano told Daily Voice.
The Waldwick Planning Board approved an application for the same company that runs the Oakland Giant Farmers Market to open a similar store at the Waldwick Avenue location, Giordano said.
“It is going to be just like the farmers market in Oakland, but a little bit better, nicer,” Giordano said.
He said the store is slated to open in the spring, but he has hopes that it can open as soon as before this Christmas.
According to its website, the Oakland Giant Farmers Market prides itself “on serving only the finest and freshest fruits and vegetables, poultry, dairy, fish, meat, and deli products to provide all the culinary needs for the shopper who demands fresh ingredients at great prices.”
“We are very happy and proud to have them come into our community,” Giordano said.
The retail space has been vacant since Stop & Shop closed earlier this year. That store had dated back to 2001, when Stop & Shop acquired it after Grand Union went bankrupt in 2001.
