Girl Scout To Speak On Body Image In Wyckoff

WYCKOFF, N.J. -- According to the National Eating Disorders Association, 69 percent of girls in 5th-12th grade reported that magazine pictures influenced their idea of a perfect body shape.

The topic will be covered by local Girl Scout Sophia Pereira who will present a body image workshop Thursday, July 14 at Wyckoff Public Library.

She will focus her presentation on body image and media stereotypes, Sophia told the Daily Voice.

"We'll also talk about equal pay, representation in politicas but specifically about body image and focus on loving yourself the way you are," the Highlands teenager said.

The workshop is part of Sophia's effort for her Gold Award.

The workshop for girls in grades 3 to 5 will include a craft and cover how to love yourself regardless of media's gender stereotypes.

The workshop will run from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Children's program room at the library, 200 Wyckoff, N.J.
