Hearing Set On Proposed Rail Trail To Link Wanaque, Ringwood, West Milford

PATERSON, N.J. – The Passaic County Planning Board will hold a public hearing about the proposed Highlands Rail Trail next month in Paterson.

The foundation of the proposed Highlands Rail Trail would be the historic alignment of the New York and Greenwood Lake Railway, which included this station in Hewitt.

“Members of the public are invited to attend the hearing and offer comments or ask questions,” Passaic County Planning Board Chair William Geverns stated in a notice of the hearing.

The rail train is a proposed "contiguous recreational trail that will provide a pedestrian and bicycle friendly pathway through the adaptive reuse of the former New York & Greenwood Lake Railway right of way in the Highlands communities of northern Passaic County including Ringwood, Wanaque, West Milford, and Pompton Lakes,” the notice states.

The hearing will take place at 401 Grand Street, room 220, in Paterson on Tuesday, May 9, at 5:30 p.m. during the regular meeting of the Passaic County Board of Chosen Freeholders.

Back in November, Passaic County held an open house on the project in Wanaque.
