Relieve your overeating and spending guilt by turning your attention to those less fortunate Dec. 1 with the national celebration of #GivingTuesday.

Now in its fourth year, #GivingTuesday encourages a new holiday tradition focused around kindness that takes place the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. Created by the 92nd Street Y — a cultural center in New York City — it’s intended to encourage people to donate time, resources and talent, says givingtuesday.org.

Nonprofits, civic organizations, businesses and corporations, as well as families and individuals, can participate by doing small acts of kindness. Social media use is encouraged, as viral sharing of giving events has resulted in successful global partnerships, the website says.
