Wyckoff Fitness Center Works Out For Jamaica

WYCKOFF, N.J. — A Jan. 30 workout at a Wyckoff fitness center will do more than burn calories as it raises funds for underprivileged children in Jamaica.

Children in Jamaica celebrate a gift given by the RKM Foundation. A Wyckoff gym will hold a fundraiser for the organization Jan. 30.

CR FItness on Lawlins Road will host a "Benefitness" class to support the RKM Foundation.

The foundation was formed to honor Rohan Kiel Miller, 10, who died in an accident in Jamaica. The group now tries to inspire children in the country through education and fun, founder Janeka Miller said.

For $20 people can come work out at the Wyckoff gym from 10 to 11 a.m. or 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with all the proceeds donated to RKM.

"We are absolutely thrilled they would do this for us," Miller said of CR Fitness. "This is a selfless act for them to welcome us."

Miller said they expect around 30 people. They had to reschedule the event from Jan. 23 to 30 because of snow.

Charlie Remiggio, owner of CR Fitness, said he was happy to help.

"I think it's a win-win," Remiggio said. "I like to give back. It's a quick way to raise some money."

Remiggio said he would tailor the workout based on the group's comfort level. He will also speak about proper nutrition.

RKM started in 2010 and reached more than 7,000 children through 40 schools with donations of books and toys. The Jan. 30 event will be the foundation's first venture to the Wyckoff area for a fundraiser, Miller said.

"We appreciate anything and everything, no matte how small," she said.

CR Fitness is located at 681 Lawlins Road.
