WYCKOFF, N. J. -- The Zabriskie House, believed to be the oldest house in Wyckoff, is open to the public for two special upcoming events, a Saturday house tour and a holiday event in December.

Visitors have the chance to tour the old stone house, once used as a store and tavern during the Revolutionary War, from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday. It opens to the public again from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 3 for a holiday open house that includes seasonal music, mulled cider and homemade cookies.

Both events allow people to see the house, a Dutch farm house listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and see the well-known gardens. The property at 421 Franklin Ave., is owned by Wyckoff Township and operated by a board of trustees.

Trustees will be on-hand to greet visitors at the holiday open house, officials said. The house was built around 1730 by the Van Voorhees family and later purchased by the Quackenbush family. It eventually was handed down to descendant Grace, who lived there after marrying Judge John Zabriskie.

When Grace died, she left the property to the township. For more details on the open houses or the property, visit the Zabriskie House's website .
