Benny was delivered to the hospital by a good Samaritan Thursday afternoon — his own skin poking through his metal choke collar, Lead Technician Kathy DeBlock told Daily Voice.
“The choke collar had snapped but was so embedded in his neck that skin was growing through it,” DeBlock said. “It takes a long time for that to happen, so we had to cut it out of his skin.”
The hospital is currently taking donations through its non-profit organization, Animal Friends of Franklin Lakes, to help cover the costs of Benny’s care.
DeBlock is hoping that a local rescue will help find Benny a foster family so he doesn’t have to remain isolated in a hospital cage.
“He really needs to be with someone that can socialize him,” she said. “He just adores people and wants to be with someone.”
