NBC Reporter Ida Siegal to Discuss New Children's Book at Pequot Library

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016 is “Take Your Child to the Library Day,” an international initiative that encourages families everywhere to take their children to their local library. Pequot Library plans a day full of fun, arts and crafts, storyhours, Lego building, a free music concert plus a talk with Ida Siegal, on-air NBC reporter, acclaimed Emmy-award winner, and children’s book author.

In the Meet the Author, Jr. event, Siegal will introduce her new chapter books; Emma is on the Air, a series about a confident young girl who wants to make her mark in broadcast journalism, published by Scholastic. Ms. Siegal will describe her own journey, inspire the audience, and read from her latest book. Books will be available for purchase and signing. 

The event is free and open to the public. It will take place on Saturday, Feb. 6 from 1-2 p.m. Siegal is an American television journalist who has been an on-air news reporter for NBC New York since January 2003. “Take Your Child to the Library Day” runs all day Saturday, from 10:30am - 3:00pm, at Pequot Library. Celebrate this international event, partnered with the Connecticut Library Consortium that reminds communities of their local library's great services and programs. 

There will be arts and crafts stations; refreshments served; get your child's first library card and have his/her picture taken for a display board. Storyhours for 3-5 year olds are at 10:30 a.m. and for 6-8 year olds at 11:00am. Block Building Hour is from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. For ages 2-4: Build with simple wooden and plastic blocks; for ages 5+: Build with our Lego blocks. Visit with Pequot Library’s real bunny, Blossom at 12:30pm. Choose an item to donate from Blossom's "Giving Tree." Meet the Author, Jr., Ida Siegal speaks at 1 p.m. in the Reading Room, then the public can attend the Free Young Persons’ Concert with Music for Youth at 2 p.m. in the Concert Hall.
