Dennis Wirth and Kristina Ferreira, along with Valley Hospital nurse Valerie Quigley, of Pompton Lakes, ran in the 9th Annual Damon Runyon 5k at Yankee Stadium to raise money for cancer research.

Their mother Kathleen Wirth, a 22-year survivor of Hodgkin Lymphoma, passed away from pancreatic cancer in 2013. Two years later, their father Dennis Wirth, a lieutenant with the Paramus Police Department, was diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma. He died in March.

The funds raised by the race go to the Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation. Contributions can be made on behalf of the siblings through August 11, by clicking HERE.
