Dr. Sileo was one of seven people profiled in a “Patient Voices” feature about living with Crohn’s Disease. The condition causes cramps, appetite loss and painful constipation and affects more than 700,000 people in the United States.

“The biggest challenge and I guess the fear is, will I ever feel normal again? When you try everything. When you try every medication that is out there. When you do everything that you are supposed to be doing, and you still feel so sick,” Dr. Sileo told the New York Times.

He also told the New York Times, “There is a whole emotional piece to this illness that people don’t really talk about. Feeling like you are different and you are losing weight and you don’t look like yourself and it is really hard at times.”

Dr. Sileo counsels adults and children with chronic illness, and draws on his experience with the disease to help patients manage anxiety, the article says.
