Saddle Brook To Honor ‘Outstanding’ Women For Giving Back

SADDLE BROOK, N.J. – In commemoration of National Women’s History Month, a group of women who have given back to the Saddle Brook community will be honored at Tuesday’s council meeting.

“These awards are public acknowledgement of success and excellence and provide visibility to the recipients,” said Saddle Brook Mayor Robert White. “The women selected are role models for other women to hold in high esteem.”

The Saddle Brook women who will be honored are:

  • Outstanding Citizen: Lousie Soni, a longtime member of the Saddle Brook Senior Club, founded the Happy Stitchers, a group of seniors who knit and crochet baby hats and blankets to donate to area hospitals.
  • Outstanding Educator: In 2016, Saddle Brook High School history teacher Amanda Klein earned the Bergen County Historic Preservation Award, and in 2014 she was named Cooperating Teacher of the Year for Monmouth University.
  • Outstanding Volunteers / Public Servants: Sisters Sarah, Rebecca and Jessica Sanchez are all longtime members of the Saddle Brook Volunteer Ambulance Corps. Sarah is also a trustee for the board of education. Rebecca is also a township police officer. And Jessica is also a township special police officer.
  • Civic Group Award of Excellence: The Saddle Brook VFW Post 3484 Auxiliary has a mission to promote patriotism and help veterans in need. Members volunteer and raise funds for veterans.

The council meeting will be held on Thursday, March 2, at 7 p.m. at town hall, 93 Market St.
