Alan Chalfin, 70, is slated to undergo the operation on Oct. 9, according to a GoFundMe page created to raise funds for his living expenses as he recovers.
“Though I have medical coverage, I don't have enough money to cover my living expenses while I'm recovering from the surgery which could take a month or 2,” Chalfin wrote on the page.
More than $10,000 had been donated by Tuesday afternoon.
“Your open hearts will truly help heal my open heart procedure,” he wrote.
