WYCKOFF, N.J. -- Money is pouring in to help the Wyckoff family of a beloved Woodcliff Lake principal dying of an aggressive form of brain cancer.
The friends and family of John Fierro have set up a fundraising page on YouCaring.com to reach a goal of $100,000.
Money raised will go toward medical bills and college funds for his three children, as he has been out of work and is not expected to survive, according to information on the site.
"John is nearing the end of his battle, but the reality of medical bills and college tuition for his three children remains. By pooling our resources, John's community of friends and family can come together to honor him in his last days -- and lessen a worrisome burden for his family. "
Diagnosed with brain cancer in the summer of 2015, he had a series of difficult treatments, including a surgery that robbed him of his sight.
"We are all saddened beyond words as we watch him slipping away from his best friend and devoted wife, Gina, and their three amazing children, Ashley (16), Lily (14) and Ben (12)."
Until 2016, he served as a gifted educator and elementary school principal and has long been a mentor to both colleagues and students.
As he enters hospice and ends his journey, his wife Gina will face the reality of paying for his remaining healthcare needs and saving enough money as a single parent to send their three children to college.
Over $70,000 has been raised.
