WYCKOFF, N.J. – Demolition has started at the site of the planned ShopRite at the corner of Greenwood and Wyckoff Avenues, despite unresolved legal challenges from a neighboring competitor.

“We are thrilled to finally take these preliminary site preparation steps and be moving toward our goal of opening a modern supermarket in Wyckoff next year,” said Lawrence Inserra, Jr., chairman and CEO of Inserra Supermarkets, which operates ShopRite stores throughout North Jersey.

Inserra hopes to open the new 62,000-square-foot store by November of 2017.

The project was approved by the Wyckoff Planning Board in 2013, after nearly 40 public meetings over three years. But legal issues have held up construction.

Stop & Shop, which operates a store in the Boulder Run Shopping Mall, mere yards from the site, filed a lawsuit objecting to the project. All but one of the 14 counts have been dismissed. A final appeal is before the Appellate Division, and a decision is expected shortly.
