Franklin Lakes Residents Honored With Volunteer Award

FRANKLIN LAKES, N.J. — Ten Franklin Lakes residents will be honored for their volunteer work.

Recipients of the 2015 Mayor's Volunteer Award will include James and Debra Herbst, who organized and coordinated the Franklin Lakes Dream Team Special Needs Summer Baseball Program a decade ago, catering to special needs youngsters 6 to 21.

They also include Carol Barrett of the Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey; lifetime Franklin Lakes Volunteer Ambulance Corps member Marilyn Fuhr and Carole Holden, chair of the Franklin Lakes Environmental Commission.

Also: Brian Brunsch, a certified arborist, emergency radio instructor and deputy coordinator of the Emergency Management Council's Local Planning Committee; environmentalist Janis Strauss of the Valley Hospital Auxiliary and OEM Deputy Coordinator Nelson Winokur -- along with Jennifer Park and Herb Umland.

The award recognizes volunteers in Franklin Lakes who provide services and fill needs that would not otherwise be met.

Mayor Frank Bivona will present the awards at the Nov. 24 council meeting, which begins at 7:30 p.m. at Borough Hall on DeKorte Drive.
