She has been the deputy to Joanne Kwasniewski — who is retiring after 23 years — since 1998.

Bojanowski officially will begin on April 1, and that day can't come soon enough.

"I am so excited to become the municipal clerk," said Bojanowski, a grandmother of 11. "I've wanted this for a really long time."

Tuesday's ceremony also marked the final meeting for Councilman Dan Dunay, who is stepping down after more than three years.

Bojanowski got her start at the Dumont clerk's office, shortly after the shop she owned, Occasions Cards and Balloons, shut down.

She went right to Borough Hall.

"They said, 'We’re putting you in the clerk’s office,' and sent me to clerk school."

She eventually went on to work in Paramus and earn her municipal clerk certification in 1997, all thanks to former Dumont's Julia Farrell in Human Services.

Bojanowski says Farrell and other former Dumont officials heard about her new position in Fair Lawn and are all proud of her.

"I’m very proud that I’m going to be the clerk," said the 17-year resident. "I'm very lucky."

She's hoping to make the borough offices friendlier and encourages residents to come to her with concerns and ideas.

"I look forward to it," she said, "and I'm proud of my town."
