Born in Hawthorne, Ullrich served as a Merchant Marine during World War II. He's lived in Franklin Lakes since 1975. Before he retired in 1990, he worked for 41 years for PSE&G in Clifton, starting as a lineman and retiring as a construction supervisor.
A member of Hawthorne Gospel Church, Ullrich worked with the Christian Service Brigade at the church for 25 years. He also did a lot of volunteer construction for the church. "He loved fishing, gardening, camping and being outdoors but most of all spending time with his grandchildren," information from the funeral home noted.
He is survived by his wife, Grace (Snyder) Ullrich, and his children, Glenn Ullrich, Lynn Van Allen and her husband Jayson, Gregg Ullrich and his wife Joyce, Arthur Ullrich, and Randi Lee Venema and her husband Michael.
Ullrich is also survived by grandchildren Jennifer, Gregg, Matthew, Rachel, Timothy, Keira, Adam, Jared, Jaclyn, Samantha, A.J., Grace and Anne, and great-grandchildren Maggie, Ryan, Sean, Brody, Chase, Skylar, Gregg, Grant and Ainsley; and brothers, Donald Ullrich and Franklin Ullrich.
Visitation and a funeral service were held last week at Vander Plaat-Vermeulen Memorial Home, in Franklin Lakes, with private interment.
