Dr. John Mudry, 83, of Franklin Lakes

FRANKLIN LAKES, N.J. -- Dr. John P. Mudry, 83, of Franklin Lakes, died Friday, Dec. 4.

Mudry was born and raised in Cliffside Park and had been a resident of Franklin Lakes for the past 46 years. A graduate of Rutgers University at New Brunswick where he was the first Henry Rutgers Scholar, he graduated from the University of Chicago Medical School in 1958, then serving his internship at the University of Illinois Research and Education Hospital in Chicago. 

Mudry was a staff member of Valley Hospital for 45 years where he served on the Medical Board and was Chairman of the Department of Medicine. He was president of the Bergen County Medical Society and Treasurer of the New Jersey State Medical Society. In addition, Mudry was a member of the American Medical Association and the American College of Physicians.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jeanne Mudry; his children, Carolyn Muddy; Patricia Hiltke (Eric); Kathryn Watson (Christopher); John R. Mudry; and three grandchildren, Kristine, Paul and Nickolaus Hiltke. 

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11, at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, at the Grace United Methodist Church, 555 Russell Avenue, Wyckoff.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Mudry’s name to The Valley Hospital Foundation, 223 North Van Dien Ave., Ridgewood, NJ 07450.
