John R. Moran, 76, Franklin Lakes Resident

FRANKLIN LAKES, N.J. -- John R. Moran, of Franklin Lakes, died on Wednesday, June 15. He was 76.

Born in Kingston, Pennsylvania, Moran graduated from Kingston High School and served in the U.S. Army before attending Kings College in Pennsylvania and Pace University in New York. He lived in Somerville and Branchburg for many years and maintained a summer home in Harvey's Lake, Pennsylvania

He spent most of his career in the World Trade Center, working for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, as assistant director of audit, before he retired in 1995. He was a volunteer exempt fireman at Engine Company No. 1 in Somerville, a member of the Somerville Elks and an avid golfer.

Moran is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary "Mitzi" Moran; children John Moran and his wife Lu Ann, and Ellen Hargraves and her husband Gregory; and grandsons Nicholas, Ryan, Michael, Kevin and Thomas.

He was predeceased by his brother, James Moran.

Visiting hours will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Friday, June 17, at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Ave., in Wyckoff. The funeral mass will be at 9:45 a.m. on Saturday at St. Elizabeth's Church, 700 Wyckoff Ave., in Wyckoff. Interment will follow at Maryrest Cemetery, in Mahwah.
