Lyda (Barbaris) De Gise, 95, Longtime Wyckoff Resident

WYCKOFF, N.J. -- Lyda (Barbaris) De Gise, longtime Wyckoff resident, died on Wednesday, April 20. She was 95.

Born in Paterson, De Gise had been a resident of Wyckoff since 1949. She graduated as a registered nurse from Paterson General Hospital School of Nursing, in 1941. She was the very first school nurse for St. Elizabeth School, in Wyckoff, a position she held for nine years.

De Gise was a parishioner of St. Elizabeth Church, in Wyckoff.

She is survived by he children, Paul De Gise and his wife Margaret of Ringwood, and Donna Benden of LaCrosse, Wisconsin; grandchildren Dawn, Dana, Denise, Danielle, Joseph, Jason, Jennifer and David; and 14 great-grandchildren.

De Gise was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, William De Gise, and her son, Joseph.

Visiting hours will be from 8:30-10 a.m. on Saturday, April 23, at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Ave., in Wyckoff. A funeral mass will follow, at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, at St. Elizabeth Church, 700 Wyckoff Ave., in Wyckoff. Interment will follow at Christ the King Cemetery, in Franklin Lakes.
