Bicyclist, 62, Airlifted After Franklin Lakes Crash, Elderly Driver Charged

FRANKLIN LAKES, N.J. -- A 62-year-old Franklin Lakes bicyclist was airlifted to the hospital with head injuries and a 74-year-old Mahwah woman was charged with careless driving after her car and the bike collided Wednesday night.

Bicyclist Richard Sheeler was headed east on Franklin Avenue just before 7:30 p.m. when westbound Kiyoko Churchwell tried to make a left onto Commerce Street, Capt. John Bakelaar told Daily Voice on Thursday.

Sheeler was flown by medical chopper to St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center in Paterson, he said.
