YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: A man being chased by an Englewood police officer pulled a handgun before vanishing, authorities said tonight.
A patrol officer spotted the man acting suspiciously on a bicycle in the area of Oakland Street and Tryon Avenue in the Third Ward near the Teaneck border just before 5 p.m., Detective Capt. Timothy Torell told CLIFFVIEW PILOT .
As the officer approached, the 20-something black suspect pedaled off, Torell said.
Minutes later, the officer spotted him again on Belmont Street and Tryon Avenue, this time without the bike.
This time he ran, Torell said.
During a foot chase, the suspect “pulled out a handgun and continued running through backyards in the area and across the border into Teaneck and out of sight,” the captain said.
Additional officers from Englewood, Bergenfield and Teaneck Police, along with a Bergen County Police K-9 unit, searched the area for nearly two hours, with no luck.
No shots were fired during the incident, Torell said.
