And despite being arrested three times in a little over a month, the accused heroin user remained free Wednesday.

Brian Hoeverman, 36, who last month was charged with stealing tools in Franklin Lakes, Mahwah and Wyckoff, was re-arrested by Franklin Lakes police, along with their Saddle River colleagues, on Monday and charged with stealing equipment from landscape trailers in both towns, borough police said.

The thefts occurred on Sept. 7 on Somerset Road, Sept. 8 on Olentangy Road, Sept. 25 on Birch Road and Sept. 28 on Apache Road, Capt. John Bakelaar said.

Hoeverman – who was still awaiting court action from an August heroin arrest in Fair Lawn -- fenced the stolen equipment in the Home Depot parking lot in Paterson, the captain said.

Less than 24 hours after Bakelaar’s department and Saddle River police processed Hoeverman, a judge ordered him released from the Bergen County Jail pending further court action under New Jersey’s 2017 Bail Reform & Speedy Trial Act.
