The caller directed officers around 8 p.m. Monday to a vehicle storage lot on Ramapo Valley Road, where Detective Eric Larsen spotted an illegally parked 2001 Chevrolet Impala on Church Street, Police Chief James Batelli told Daily Voice.

He then saw 42-year-old John J. Yager, "dressed all in black with a hoodie covering his face," walking on Avenue A, the chief said.

Yager -- who came back as the Impala's registered owner -- first tried to get away, Batelli said, but Larsen stopped and questioned him.

In or near his car officer's found the Jeep parts, he said.

Yager also was carrying burglary tools, hypodermic needles and drug paraphernalia, the chief said.

A search of the area by Officer Robert Rapp and K-9 Remco didn't locate any other suspects, he said.

Police charged Yager with various count of burglary, theft and possession of burglary tools, drug paraphernalia and the needles. He also received summonses for improper parking and having an open container in a motor vehicle.

Yager remained held without bail Tuesday in the Bergen County Jail pending a hearing.
