OAKLAND, N.J. – An Oakland homeowner was charged with hosting a party that left an underage boy hospitalized and dozens of other youngsters involved in a brawl, authorities said.
Borough officers were joined in the Long Hill Road area just after 10 p.m. by colleagues from surrounding towns, Lt. Douglas Eldridge said.
By then, “the fight had apparently ended, most of the people had dispersed and numerous vehicles were leaving the immediate area,” he said.
Less than a half hour later, two 911 calls came in from nearby – one of a group of teens trying to damage a vehicle on Page Drive and another reporting a severely intoxicated juvenile at a Ryerson Avenue residence, the lieutenant said.
The boy was found and taken by the Oakland First Aid Squad to The Valley Hospital for treatment of acute alcohol intoxication, Eldridge said.
Detective Mark Piercy investigated and charged James Bartek, 47, of Long Hill Road, with one count making his home available for an underage drinking party and another of maintain a nuisance.
He received a summons to appear in Municipal Court.
Meanwhile, delinquency charges were being prepared against the intoxicated boy. Police also were investigating the brawl, which could produce charges, as well.
