The sweeps at the Oakland and Franklin Lakes schools were expected to last no more than 45 minutes, Schools Supt. Beverly McKay said.

Teachers, supervisors and administrators supervised the youngsters during the brief evacuation.

School officials throughout New Jersey conduct the sweeps both to check for illegal substances and to send a message that they won’t be tolerated.
