Detective Lt. Joseph Rock was on patrol when he spotted a woman familiar to police pacing back and forth on the corner of Parkway and Wallington Avenue, Detective Capt. Shawn Kudlacik said.
Soon after, a tan pickup with two men inside pulled up and she got in the front passenger seat, Kudlacik told Daily Voice.
She got out two minutes later, he said.
Rock stopped the pickup for having a cracked windshield.
The driver, ex-con Patrick Johnsen, 27, of East Rutherford, said there was no one else in the vehicle -- even though the lieutenant could see a passenger "shifting from side to side" in back, Kudlacik said.
So Rock ordered both out of the truck.
As the rear passenger -- identified as Jose Burgos, 20, of Passaic -- emerged, several bundles of heroin fell from the leg of his shorts to the ground, Kudlacik said.
Police recovered 227 packets of heroin labeled "HIGH FIVE" and 60 labeled "WORLDWIDE," he said.
They also seized a Los Angeles Angels baseball cap that held the rock of crack, as well as $536 in alleged drug proceeds, the captain said.
There were also sandwich bags typically used to package drugs and a manifesto for a gang affiliation in the console, he said.
