Officers are now sporting pink mourning bands over their badges.

Noting that many of us know someone struggling with breast cancer, police Chief Benjamin Fox said it is a way to draw attention to the disease and encourage health checkups.

The bands were made several years ago by Sara Tully, daughter of Sgt. Tom Tully, Fox said.

Several area departments are showing similar support by wearing the bands over badges. October is national Breast Cancer Awareness month.
