PATERSON, N.J. – Paterson school officials will pay $15,000 in legal fees for a parent of a student with autism who successfully challenged the district’s plan for educating her child, NorthJersey.com reports.

Hilda Barrientos fought for her child to be sent to a private program, outside the district, that uses applied behavior analysis to teach children with autism, the story says.

Paterson’s acting schools superintendent signed off on a settlement to allow the child to attend the program and for Paterson to pay for the child’s transportation, the article says.

Numerous legal challenges have been filed against Paterson’s special education services over the last serval years, the story says.
