President's Day: Ford Campaigns With Wyckoff Woman, GW Sleeps In Oakland

It was December 1993 and the then-81-year-old Nixon, formerly of Saddle River and Park Ridge, was seeking an osteopathic physician in the area.

I'll never forget it," said Abend, who is double-board certified in family practice, and Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine. "He expressed the same humility that any patient would, which I thought was cool."

Nixon wasn't the only president to spend time in Bergen and Passaic counties:

The Van Allen House, Oakland: George Washington and his officers stayed at the Van Allen House on July 14, 1777, on their way north to join more of their forces near West Point.

Great Falls Historic District, Paterson: President Gerald Ford designated Great Falls a National Historic Landmark in 1976.

New Bridge Landing, River Edge: New Bridge Landing was the site of a pivotal bridge crossing the Hackensack River, where General George Washington led his troops in retreat from British forces.

President Obama visits Paterson: President Barack Obama made a special trip to Paterson following Hurricane Irene in 2011.

Dey Mansion, Wayne: George Washington returned to his headquarters at Dey Mansion in after learning of Benedict Arnold's betrayal in 1780. The mansion will reopen on Feb. 22, Washington's birthday.

The Hermitage, Ho-Ho-Kus: The National Historic Landmark and house museum was visited during the Revolutionary War by General George Washington.

Fort Lee Historic Park: On November 16, 1776, George Washington witnessed the battle of New York from across the river on the bluff of Fort Lee, above Burdett's Landing.

Bergen County Courthouse, Hackensack: War hero and popular president Dwight D. Eisenhower visited the Bergen County Courthouse in Hackensack on Oct. 19, 1952.

Fairleigh Dickinson University, Teaneck: Then-Vice Presidential Lyndon B. Johnson takes the podium at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck in 1960.

President John F. Kennedy spoke at the Teaneck Armory in 1960. Before his 1961 election, the then-senator said: "This country cannot survive unless the political leaders, those who seek positions of responsibility, are willing to tell the people the truth, and you cannot hide the truth in all the department agencies in Washington."

Ford campaigns for Ridgewood schoolteacher, Wyckoff resident: Former president Gerald Ford campaigned for Congresswoman and Ridgewood schoolteacher Marge Roukema in 1980. She went on to serve 22 years as a member of the House of Representatives.

Lyndhurst Firehouse: President Jimmy Carter campaigned for re-election at the Lyndhurst firehouse in 1980. 

Wellington Hall Nursing Home, Hackensack: President Ronald Reagan stopped at Wellington Hall Nursing Home in Hackensack during a 1984 campaign trail.
