Lane, Ramp Closures Near New Tappan Zee Bridge Announced
A new round of overnight lane and ramp closures near the new Tappan Zee Bridge have been announced as crews continue working on the Westchester landing. Beginning on Friday, Tappan Zee Constructors will continue installing new precast concrete slabs near the Westchester landing, which will create a new base roadway for the twin-span crossing’s connection to the New York State Thruway, according to officials. Expect delays in Rockland near the New Jersey border for several days as contracting crews begin several road resurfacing projects in the area. Beginning on Thursday, April 26, the Rockland County Highway Department will have crews resurfacing three roadways, weather permitting, leading to lane closures and delays for drivers. Week-Long Lane Closures Start On I-87 During Roadwork Near New TZB
A new round of lane closures near the new Tappan Zee Bridge will last for a week. Tappan Zee Constructors (TZC) announced this week that they are scheduled to install new precast concrete slabs near the bridge’s Westchester County landing, which will “create a new base roadway for the twin-span crossing’s connection to the Thruway when the second span opens later this year and require overnight lane closures on the northbound New York State Thruway.” The I-87 lane closures are expected to span from exit 8A northbound to the bridge. Traffic Alert In Effect For Pearl River St. Patrick's Day Parade
Hundreds are expected to make their way to Pearl River over the weekend to celebrate at the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade. The Orangetown Police Department issued an alert this week warning Pearl River residents that there will be restricted parking in the area on Sunday, March 18, when the parade kicks off from the Pfizer parking lot at 1:30 p.m. The parade will then turn east onto East Crooked Hill Road, turning south onto North Middletown Road, west onto East Central Avenue and turning south onto South Main Street, where it will reach its conclusion. Two Tractor-Trailers Overturn On New TZB, Prompting Ban On Trucks, Buses
New York State Thruway officials have closed the new Tappan Zee Bridge to all trucks and buses after two tractor-trailers overturned on the bridge. The two tractor-trailers flipped over on the northbound side of the bridge around 1:30 p.m. Friday, blocking two right lanes, said state police. As the severe weather continues to intensify, downed trees and utility poles have closed two sections of Route 9W Friday in Rockland County. Stony Point Police Department advised that Route 9W from Main Street to Hastings Lane continues to be closed due to multiple utility poles down. Route 9W southbound is also closed in Orangetown due to a downed tree, police said. 25 Vehicles Involved In Tappan Zee Bridge Crashes That Caused Closure
Update, 3:30 p.m. Three lanes are now open in each direction on the new Tappan Zee Bridge with some delays still existing following earlier crashes that involved some 25 vehicles and closed the bridge for about three hours. The first crash reported around 9:30 a.m. was a chain reaction type which started on the northbound side of I-87 and continued as one of the vehicles struck a jersey barrier and pushed it into the left lane of southbound traffic causing additional crashes, according to state police.
